Paintings, sketches, and photography are not separate from design work—they are the foundation of it. This gallery represents a process of “visual research,” capturing the forms, textures, light, and human moments that eventually inform the soul of a built environment.
jhyalai ma basera
sitting by the window....
In Nepali, “Jhyalaimā basera” literally translates to sitting by the window. It is in these quiet moments that we find ourselves on a threshold, gazing at the animating world outside from the suspended stillness within. Sometimes, the sensation of existing between these two contrasting worlds is so powerful that it sparks a cascade of thought. While the body freezes, a parallel animation begins to run through the mind. This collection explores various approaches to capturing those vivid, internal animations born from the world outside.
pani tanki
on the top, defining the city skyline!
There was once a time when temple pinnacles defined the skyline of Kathmandu, stretching toward the heavens and connecting the city’s spirit to the wider cosmos. Today, however, it is the water tanks atop every scaling building that look down upon those very temples, redefining the city’s sacred horizon. Somewhere in between, we lost our cosmic connection, trading it for the practical necessity of keeping our toilets running. Here, we attempt to look at how the water tanks are conquering our modern horizons.
